<-- Back to 'How to Create a Resume' Creating a Resume Cover Letter The most important part of your Resume is your Cover Letter/Career Summary. The key to creating an effective Cover Letter is diligent preparation and research. You will be most effective if you write a new Cover Letter for every position to which you apply. You should research the company, it's services, the culture there, the industry and of course the position for which are applying. If you know the person who is in charge of hiring, or the head of the department in whcih you want a position, you should address your letter to that person. Your letter should be short and to the point. There are really only two objectives of your cover letter. The first is to identify the reason you are writing the letter, which is to apply for a position. The second is the key one, to identify why you should be considered for that position. Remember to be to the point here, and only make a few key points. Example : Dear Sir/Madam, Please find enclosed a copy of my Resume in response to the position "Lead Software Engineer" as advertised in the Daily Mail. I am familiar with X company, and my experience demonstrates that I am an able and responsible Engineer.
